Michael Velez
About the Artist

Michael is a mixture of actor, performer, writer, producer, promoter and interpreter. The hearing son of Deaf parents, Michael is a founder and active member of Half-N-Half. He has performed nationally with Half-N-Half and on his own in Copenhagen, Sydney and San Juan.

As an actor/producer he has appeared in the Tony award winning play The Shadowbox as well as written and co-produced several short films. He has produced several evenings of entertainment for the International CODA Conferences and The Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Conventions.

As a promoter he currently hosts themed dance parties in various nightclubs in the San Francisco Bay Area.

As an interpreter he has had the opportunity to work abroad in Denmark, Holland, Australia and Thailand as well as on cruiseships sailing the Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Southeast Asia and Alaska.

As a performing arts interpreter his talents with music have been seen in the musicals Saturday Night Fever, Aida , The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, The Rocky Horror Show, The Full Monty and Beach Blanket Babylon. In concerts he has accompanied Madonna, Janet Jackson, Elton John, Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, The Rolling Stones, The Dixie Chicks, George Michael, Cyndi Lauper, The B52's and The Backstreet Boys.

Michael has been an interpreter since 1980 and is certified with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Currently he lives in Pleasant Hill, California.
